Labels for my Pantry

This project I have been meaning to do for more than 6 months... probably more really. I finally broke out my Cricut and made some labels. I want a lovely pantry like House of Smiths. I know pretty much everyone has seen it. Well I want everything all labeled and organized and pretty, so I have begun to copy things that she has done in her pantry. Like this baking supplies crate. I took a 40% off unfinished wood crate from Michaels and stained it with some stain I had sitting in my garage.

 It looks so good with the labels on it!
I Mod Podged over it to hopefully make it last a while. I was too impatient to wait for it to dry so that is why the wood looks whitish.

 Then there are my jars -

 Yay! Now my silly husband won't confuse powdered sugar for flour!
(really? yes.. *shakes head*)

  Then I found this bottle at T.J. Maxx for only a buck!

 Of course I put maple syrup in it!

 Hooray! One more craft project to check off of my mile long list!
If you have a Cricut do you know about Sure Cuts Alot software? I purchased it and LOVE!
You can use any font you have on your computer, plus dingbats. No need to buy tons of expensive cartridges. SCAL is what I used to do all of these labels. I love it because you lay all of the words you want out on a digital cutting mat and you can adjust the size to the exact height and width that you need them cut, plus move them around to where on the mat you want it cut at. I hook it up to my computer via a USB cable and click cut. Its pretty awesome. I just thought I would share the love. Here is a link if you are interested.

Necklace and Earring Rack From Scraps.

In my last post I told you how my husband and I made bathroom mirror frames using left over boards, from the contractors pack that I bought, for my dining room re-do. Well, my hubster was going to throw away several good size scraps and I rescued them. So glad I did because I decided they would be perfect for a project that I had been thinking of doing for a while now. A rack to hold my non-heirloom quality necklaces and hook earrings.
I started off with just the necklace rack and decided an earring rack would be great too. I found a long-ish board from the scraps that thankfully had straight, not mitered, ends. I had a pack of 100 brass cup hooks that I have had.. pretty much forever. What on earth? So I pre-drilled almost 50 teeny holes into the thick end of the board and screwed in the brass cup hooks. I spray painted it first, and added a second coat to cover the shiny brass cup hooks.

I did the same with the earring holder. I just used some small eye hooks that I had in an old picture hanging kit. I spaced them all about a forefinger width apart. If I did it again I would have spaced it maybe an inch apart instead. This works though.

 After the paint dried I screwed them into the wall. I marked the studs but they were in a weird place so I just used a stud for the center of the boards. For the necklace one I used a long screw in either end and just screwed right into the drywall. Its working quite well.

 I decided to hang them in my closet. There was a long wall without shelves and I figured it was a the perfect place for them.

Thats it. Super duper simple. Incredibly cheap because it was made from leftover parts and ancient hardware. The fun part was hanging up all of my necklaces and earrings.

Boy, most of these picture are pretty crappy.

 Of course I had to hang everything up in almost Rainbow order. Yay!

Organizing My Tablecloths

 I've been super busy the past few weeks trying to get projects done before we start school back up. My kids finished in February and I decided to take an extra long break so that I could do these things before they build up and overwhelm me. It didnt work. Now we really need to get school started soon and I am waiting until the last minute to do things. Classic I tell ya.
Right now I am working on painting a piece of crappy furniture. I am between coats so I thought I would share a nice little organization project I completed since on our long school break.
I got rid of my linen closet and turned it into a game and junk closet. The tablecloths and napkins and place mats were being stored in the pantry on the floor in a fabric zip bag. Very inconvenient. I decided to put everyones coats in their own closets (that's where the sheets went too) and hang up my table linens.
Here is what the coat closet looks like now (no before... but it would have been boring).

I hung up all of the table cloths, in rainbow order, on those thin, fuzzy hangers. The ones I got happened to have little hooks for stacking hangers together. I decided to take the plastic skirt/pant  hangers, that Kohls always leaves on my clothes, and use it for the napkins, placemats, table runners, and doilies. Yes. I said doilies. If I had napkins that matched a table cloth they got clipped to the skirt hanger and hung on the hook of the matching tablecloth. Like so:

An easy little organization project, but such a good idea.
Since we're here in the closet lets take a look at what else I did.
I hung an over the door hook rack in the closet for tote bags and a couple light jackets that were in there. I still need to make a place in the garage for those plastic bins on the floor of the closet. I did however organize that messy shelf you see. The one with the Hello Kitty on it.

See? I had these baskets  and thought they would work well. One is for hats and scarves, one for mittens and hand warmers the other is for my Stone Mountain gear. We visit there quite often and its just easier to grab the basket and head on out. It holds our passes, refillable cups, ponchos, and a couple of handwarmers in there too for when we go in the winter.  That shelf above them is for my husbands boxes. He loves to hang on to software and hardware boxes for the computer stuff.

Back to my painting. I cant wait to show you what I did!!!!

Craft Closet

Seems like I have been working on my craft closet for months and months now.. wait. I know its been months. But I think I finally have it organized and functioning properly. 
Remember the burlap pegboard I put in there from the scraps left over from my gift wrap station?

I finally have it nice enough to show you what I did.

 I hung rolls of contact paper just like I did with my wrapping paper station. I use the vinyl in my Cricut.

The Cricut is just underneath it and on the wall next to the pegboard are the mats. They are hanging on some Command hooks. Love those things!

 

Next to the contact paper are my scissors, hole punch, and pliers/jewelry pliers. 

I bought some silver buckets in the dollar section at Target and hung them on some pegboard hooks. One holds Sharpies, pencils, pens and the other holds foam brushes. Just a couple more pegboard hooks next to that for miscellaneous stuff. 

On the opposite side from the Cricut, on my craft dresser, I have a cheap pan holder (I dont know the real term) I got at Big Lots. You know the things you put in your cabinet to divide and hold pans upright? Well it is holding my paper cutters and a pan :) Its a crappy pan that I figured would come in handy for crafts or something. Just behind it you can see my curtain rod paper hanger.

I glued down a tape measure to the front edge of the dresser. I have had it forever and have always hated rolling it up. I figured this would be the perfect place for it and with the ribbons in a drawer just below, it is!

I emptied out the crap from the dresser drawers and did a lot of organizing. Two drawers hold beads and beading stuff, one the ribbons, and the other three are miscellaneous junk. I bought some drawer dividers for a couple bucks on clearance at Michaels and used them in 2 drawers. Its nice because it keeps little things contained nicely.

The opposite wall from my mini fabric bolts got a little organization too. This makes me so happy! Oh how I love organization! You can see my old...um... what are those things called? That gray thing in the right of the picture? Anyways you find it in the workshop, usually with nuts and bolts and nails and screws in it. Well, in my craft closet it comes in handy for sharp x-acto knives and razors and pins and little bitty stuff.

Looking way up in the closet right next to the ceiling is all of my yarn. I have 8 of those cardboard file boxes full of yarn. I separated them all by weight (or tried to) and labeled the boxes by weight and the newer number system, e.g. medium weight-4 . Many of my yarns were not marked so I guessed. Marking it by weight and number makes it easier if I use an old pattern also. These boxes go all the way around the top shelf. One day I may cover them in a cute fabric or paper, but for now this does nicely.

See the blue bins just below that? The first picture up top shows them also. They just hold trim, lace, huge rolls of ribbon, some knitting/crochet supplies, and also my "Your Story" that came free with my Cricut is up there. 

I guess that about does it!

Easy Drawer Ribbon Holder

Just a simple organizational project today. I decided to use one drawer in my craft dresser just for ribbons. Now, I don't use ribbons a whole lot so this works very well for my small stash. I just used cafe curtain rods. I think if I had it to do over again I would have used tension rods, but these work fine.

I just screwed the hardware right into the sides of the drawers. I had to use shorter screws than those that came with it though.  To add or remove a spool you just lift it off of the pins that the rods rest on.

That's it! An easy storage solution for my ribbons.

A really big, really messy drawer

Its the little things, like this big ole messy desk drawer (its gotta be about 2 feet+ long), that when organized makes me oh so happy!

I promise I didnt mess it up to make it look like that.

OK, so this was pre-blogging that I did this, but it made me so happy that I had to take a picture. Since I saved the pics for so long I decided to share the happiness with you all. Surprisingly this drawer is still just as neat, and the only thing that is nice and neat in my hubby's man cave/office.
HOORAY for organization!

Curtain Rod Paper Holder

 I wanted a place to hang some newspapers and packing paper in my craft closet. I wanted it easy to grab so that when I needed to protect a surface, and only think about it when I have a wet paint project already in my hand with no place to set it, I can grab one handed without too much fuss.
I love to use things I already have on hand, so when I noticed several of those cheap, crappy, white metal curtain rods stashed in a corner of my game closet, I knew they would be perfect for the job. I also wanted it to have some grip so all the papers wouldnt fall off when I grabbed a sheet.  I found a bit of skid proof shelf liner left over from the '90's and adhered it with some more of that wonderful red tape.

Here it is attached to the rod with the tape. I wasn't worried about it matching anything because it was going to be covered with paper. I didn't cover the entire rod though.

I hung it up just above my dresser turned work table.

Complete with paper and old comics.

Its very convenient. I already had a chance to use it when once again I forgot to lay something down first before starting a project.

Ugly, yes, but its in a closet, and it works for me.
